Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has backed Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to come out on top and secure all three points in the London derby against Chelsea on Boxing Day. The two rivals meet on Saturday and there is a huge difference between the two clubs currently both in form and in the table standings.
Chelsea are currently the fifth team in the Premier League table, while their rivals sit pretty close to the relegation zone in 15th position after a run of disastrous form this season. Of their 14 Premier League games so far this season, Arsenal have lost 8. In their last league game, they were beaten by Everton at Goodison Park but will be looking to vanish their recent form and aim to get a win against Chelsea.
Berbatov said Arsenal are not finished yet and should still be able to turn the tides in their favor at the weekend. The former Tottenham striker said Arteta’s men will be desperate for a win and the best way they could do that is by coming out of the London derby claiming bragging rights by clinching all three points.
Berbatov was speaking in an interview with Metro where he said that although Arsenal have been poor this season, they can still turn their season around by managing to defeat Chelsea at home on Boxing Day.
Berbatov added that Arsenal can draw inspiration from the fact that they defeated this Chelsea side in the final of last season’s FA Cup, and they should just believe they can secure the win they deliberately need so much.
The Gunners finished last season in 8th place and have tried to stop their current poor run all to no avail. However, like Berbatov rightly said, this could be their biggest chance yet to prove they are still active this season.
