CHELSEA TO LAUNCH OFFICIAL BID FOR HAVERTZ

Chelsea have submitted an official bid for German star Kai Havertz, per reports. The Bayer Leverkusen man has been linked to the club for many weeks now. The club looks to wrap up a deal for the midfielder before the start of the new season.

Havertz, 21, scored an outstanding 18 goals and registered nine assists in the 2019-2020 season. Havertz has been on the Blues’ radar for some time now. The Blues have Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner already, but they strongly feel Havertz will make the team more wholesome.  Manager Frank Lampard is still keen to Havertz as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging for top honours next season.

It has been noted that Havertz has already agreed a five-year deal in principle with the Blues. He is keen to make the switch, but a fee hasn’t yet been agreed with Leverkusen. But according to reports from Build the Blues are expected to make an official approach very soon as they look to step up their interest and complete the signing.

At this moment in time, they are one of the few clubs who can afford the playmaker due to the financial impact of the Covid19 pandemic. Leaving Chelsea with enough time to negotiate the deal. However, the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are likely to reignite their interest in 2021 should the Blues fail to land their target this season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have intensified their interest in Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The Blues have lost faith in club record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga. Petr Cech and Marina have told Lampard to keep Kepa for another season at least. Cech promised to invest time in the development of Kepa. Barca boss Josep Bertomeu has publicly said that the Barcelona keeper is not for sale even as they restructure their team.
