Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota has been a thorn in the flesh of Arsenal over the course of the last two seasons. As a matter of fact, Jota has been a menace against the Gunners since he became a Liverpool player at the start of last season. The Portugal national team star left fellow Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers to join Liverpool in a £41m deal that could rise to £45m based on add-ons.
Jota made his Liverpool debut against Arsenal in the Premier League at the start of last season and he was able to celebrate it with a goal. He came on as a second half substitute to score the third goal for the hosts and seal the three points for his team via a 3-1 scoreline. In the return leg, Jota was also a substitute. The Portuguese international came on in the second half and he went on to score a brace thereby propelling his team to a 3-0 away win over Arsenal.
Jota has scored in all but one of the games against Arsenal in the colours of Liverpool. In total, Jota now has six goals in six games against the Gunners in all competitions.
For the current season, Jota scored one of the goals in the 4-0 home win over Arsenal in the league. His only blank came during the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final tie which ended in a goalless draw at the home of Liverpool. Arsenal played 66 minutes of the game with ten men after Switzerland star Granit Xhaka was given his marching orders as a result of a professional foul on Jota. In the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final tie, Jota was the difference as he scored twice to lead Liverpool to a 2-0 away win and a 2-0 aggregate win.
The reward for seeing off Arsenal in the las four is a aCarabao Cup final clash with Chelsea. Liverpool and Chelsea would be meeting for the third time this season when they face each other in the Carabao Cup. Chelsea sealed their final spot with a 3-0 aggregate win over Tottenham Hotspur.
